📰 Global March to Gaza: All the Details About the March to Stop the Genocide

Interview with the Spokesperson
By: Salvina Elisa Cutuli
Reading Time: 8 minutes

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked several times about the March to Gaza, explaining its origins and how to register. This is a civil society mobilization aiming to peacefully break the Israeli blockade and allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The initiative has gained massive support and many endorsements — but also raised many questions.

We interviewed Antonietta Chiodo, spokesperson of the Italian delegation and independent photojournalist with extensive experience in Gaza and the West Bank. She helped clarify many aspects.

📌 Practical Information

To stay informed, the reference point is the Telegram channel “Global March to Gaza.”

The idea for this march started in France and quickly spread worldwide. Today, 32 delegations are participating and regularly meeting online to organize effectively.

However, during the meetings, all delegates showed their identity — except the French representative, who insisted on remaining anonymous under the name “Meshdy.”
As a result, the 32 delegations unanimously decided to split from the French group and continue with the same mission under a new name:
âžĄïž Global March to Gaza, distinguishing it from the original March to Gaza for this reason.

đŸ›« The March Details

  • The march will begin on June 13th from Cairo, Egypt, heading toward the Rafah crossing, the only passage between Egypt and Gaza.
  • The crossing has been under Israeli military control since May 2024, and a total blockade on humanitarian aid was imposed in March 2025.
  • Although partially eased in recent days, aid entering Gaza remains drastically insufficient.

âžĄïž Participants must arrive in Cairo by June 12 to join other delegations.
An Egyptian team will handle logistics: accommodation, food, transportation, and rest areas.
However, this is not an easy journey and is not recommended for those with physical or psychological health issues, as participants will walk at least 11 kilometers per day.

📝 How to Participate

  • Fill out the registration form.
  • Join the official Telegram channel — it is the only official communication source.
  • Note: Only Antonietta Chiodo is authorized to speak for the Italian delegation. Claims by others are false.

Regional Telegram groups have also been created for coordination.

âžĄïž Participants must:

  • Be over 21 (per Egyptian law)
  • Have a visa to enter Egypt
  • Hold roundtrip tickets to/from Cairo (ideally with flexible return dates)

🚍 Itinerary

  • From Cairo, participants will travel by bus to Al-Arish (Sinai Peninsula).
  • From there, they will march on foot for 3 days to Rafah.
  • The group will stay at Rafah for 2 days, then return to Cairo by June 20.

A legal team is already active in Italy and other countries to assist participants if needed.

đŸ€ Who is Participating?

The march includes:

  • Journalists
  • Doctors and nurses
  • Activists
  • Lawyers
  • Humanitarian workers
  • Delegates from Freedom Flotilla Coalition

Organizations include:

  • New Weapons Research Group
  • Vittorio Arrigoni Foundation
  • Aamod
  • Association for Solidarity with the Palestinian People
  • Al-Haq
  • Observatory against Militarization of Schools and Universities

Even Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s grandson, has endorsed the march.

“We march for life. We march for dignity. We will march to Rafah with one goal: open the border.”

đŸŽ™ïž Spokesperson’s Words

“As stated in our joint declaration with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and the Land Convoy ‘Sumud’ to Break the Siege, Gaza must be freed — by land, sea, and air.

We’re witnessing a genocide live on global media.
I’ve worked and continue working in these territories. Our governments have allowed Israel to carry out real torture, even on children,”
said Antonietta Chiodo.

She continues:

“Humanitarian convoys are blocked, often filled with expired or unusable goods.
Human rights must be in the hands of the people, not just powerful politicians.
We must reclaim the right to protest and to express outrage.
Palestine is a state — and should be recognized as such.”

🛂 Permits and Legal Status

About 150 people from Italy are currently planning to join — though the number is changing.

Even though Global March to Gaza is peaceful, delegations have requested permits from Egyptian authorities. A response may never arrive.
Still, the Italian delegation will proceed, aware of potential risks:

  • Questioning or detainment at the airport
  • Only a formal rejection from the Egyptian government will cancel participation

Anyone wishing to join another country’s delegation must inform them to receive legal assistance and protection.

“Even in the event of a negative response, those who choose to go understand the risks.
But let me stress: it should be everyone’s right to march peacefully in support of the Palestinian people,”
says Chiodo.

✅ Safety First

Participants must provide emergency contact information when registering.
Every question in the form is designed with safety in mind.

If the Italian delegation cannot leave, alternative events will be held in Italy during the same dates.

In her video appeal, Antonietta says:

“The population is dying. There is no time left.
It’s been 19 months of silence. No one has given voice to Gaza’s victims, where half the dead are children.
We must all march together — to say no to genocide anywhere, not just in Gaza.
Because the law must be the same for all.”

📄 UN Report

A UN special commission report (Nov 2024) equates Israeli military operations to the most serious international crimes.
It documented:

  • Indiscriminate bombings
  • Use of starvation as a weapon

It states that in early 2024, over 25,000 tons of explosives were dropped on Gaza — equivalent to two nuclear bombs.

“No more words — we must act.
We will not bring weapons; we will bring our voices.
But rest assured: we will not stop,”
wrote the movement in an open letter to the Egyptian and Israeli embassies.

Let us hope they are right.
